Rogiet School Visit Rodney Parade
There were several firsts on this day. Firstly, Rogiet Junior School made their first visit to perform the Guard of Honour and take part in pre-match training. Secondly an enthusiastic volunteer, Joe Crocker of Rodney the Dragon fame, used his coaching skills to run the training session and finally, Tonmawr RFC made their first appearance at Rodney Parade. The pre-match training sessions were a new FoNR project this season and we have been lucky to have several of the team to help out, especially Mike Poole. However, there is not always a player available and being naturally short handed the Trust Committee asked for volunteers to help out. We were very pleased when Joe Crocker came forward to help out. An energetic session took place with the Rogiet children taking a full part, happliy all with smiles on their faces. At kick off time, the children formed the traditional Guard of Honour for the teams as they ran out onto the park before running across in front of the crowd and taking their seats in the stand to watch the match. It was encouraging in the second half when the game seemed to be slipping away from Newport, to hear the kids chanting their support loudly. Luckily Newport came away with the game and a bonus point to boot. Nick Jackson. FoNR Community Rep |
